The 10 Page Love Letters

Well everyone knows that you will get a ton of papers when you start school. First, you go to an elementary school, usually you don’t get any papers, but your parents do. Middle school comes around, and you already have papers that you have to bring home for your parents to sign. High school, probably the first time ever when you get a 1 page paper to keep all year around. Then college, you get a 10 page syllabus from your instructor. What is with that?

That’s because the your professors care about you. They want to you not fail their class because they general don’t want you to waste money repeating the class. Well this 10 page syllabus is a 10 page love letter. All it is, are words with thoughtfulness.

So these are the things that is in this love letter of yours:

  1. Personal Information: You will get to know your professor and where they shelter while they are on campus. It is also very important to know when your professor is free, so when you have anything to say, just stop by during that time.
  2. General Description: Descriptions on Match.com is not even as detailed as the descriptions in this love letter. Let me tell what what this description contains.
    • Favorite Books: If you want to be on the good side of the professor, make sure you read these books, and understand it. Because professors generally enjoy smart students that knows what they are talking about.
    • Rules: Everyone have things that they do or don’t like to do. So the professor is just telling you all of their pet-peeves ahead of time. Take it as a warning. Because if you make the professor mad, you might regret it.
    • Grading Scale: If you see a nicely built man/woman, pass by, how would you rate him/her? That’s basically it. You are being graded! You must make a good expression, otherwise, your time together with the professor won’t go well.
    • The Schedule: Lastly, the most important things you must do! Just like your parents and everyone around you. professors have expectations too. They want things to be done right and on time. Because your professors are so caring, they let you know ahead of time, what they want you to do. Isn’t that great?
    • Things to Keep in Mind: The last 5 pages of this love letter is probably not even written by the professor. They are written by your college. Because your college loves you too.

Don’t you just feel so loved at your college? Well man, that’s what I’m going to expect for the amount of money that I’m paying them. Anyway, you must have access to your syllabus at all times, because if you don’t, and you did something wrong, it will be all your fault.

Just so you know, this is probably the toughest love you’ll ever find. But at least it shows that your professors care and thought about you enough to write this amazingly boring love letter.

You are in good luck though. If you show up on the first day of class, you usually don’t have to read it because the professors will go over their syllabus all for you!

Back to School

This is what it will be like in the first two weeks and on of every semester.

Money Money Money

Binhs Schedule Spring 2011

Very busy spring semester. This is not even all of the things that I will be doing.

So you fill out your financial aid. You get a lot of money. Money that you can’t possibly have. Because there are only so much money that you need. Well if you are a dependent, and your parents are making just a little more than $50,000 a year than you’re out of luck. You get less money than you can imagine. Like me, I have at least $3,000 left to pay on my own.

Because there is a flaw in the financial aid system, the middle class students do not get enough money for college. They get just enough money to be extremely stressful about college rather than enjoying your time at college and learn.

The flaw is that the system does not consider the debts that the parents are in. The bills they have to pay and who they have to support. There are a lot of other expenses compared to the money that is coming in.

My family’s EFC is $8,000. I go to college, the cost of everything is $16,000 per semester. I still have $3,000 left over to pay out of pocket every semester. And guess what, my family doesn’t have enough money to pay for the $3,000. So I’m left here with stress and agony, hoping for a miracle.

Well that is not going to happen. I have to find some other way to get more money. Here is a list:

  1. Declare independence from my parents.
  2. Use the Federal Parent Loan (if my parents agree to it)
  3. Use credit cards that have no interest for a certain amount of months.
  4. Work a lot. (doubt that’s going to happen)
  5. Scholarships. (they’re extremely hard to get, I filled out for 14! And got none) More scholarships then!
  6. Grants. (they usually go to people whose parents make less than $50,000 a year.)
  7. Beg for money.
  8. Get a bank loan. (these companies are like sharks, stay away if you can)

My best option right now is to declare independence from my parents. Because then my financial aid application will be solely based on my income. But there’s a catch, once you’re an independent.

  • No health insurance.
  • Possibly no car insurance.
  • Parents not receiving tax money for claiming you.

Well if you weight it out, it’s still better than taking out a loan, because I’m basically guaranteed tuition money. Well at least I hope. And I can apply for health insurance with the government, but take real good care of myself. So I don’t have to go to the hospital. I will still be under my parent’s car insurance because those cars are under their names. My parents stopped getting tax money from the government for claiming me since I was 17. So that means they would not lose anything.

This is only one of the problems that you may have when you’re in college. Carefully think about your financial situation before you start your college career. It will be most helpful. Become a shark when it comes to getting free money. It will help also.

Growing Tree

I don’t want to grow up yet. It is too much fun being young and innocent. The biggest mistake that I made in my life is wanting to become older and not enjoying my childhood. I tried to take on responisbilities that I didn’t have to. I tried to take care of myself when I didn’t need to. I tried to become and adult with a lot stress when I shouldn’t have to. I tried way to hard to become the perfect mature child to be accepted by other adults when I shouldn’t have.

Now I have to live my life backwards. Now I want to act like a child when I am an adult. Now I want to be taken care of when I should be taking care of myself. Now I have responsibilities but I don’t want to be responsible. Now there are people depending me instead of me depending on them. Thinking back, I had a very short childhood. I have a longer time stuck in the middle. And now I have to truely transform myself to become a responsible person that have dependents and stress. I don’t know if I can do. I don’t know how to do it. When I thought I was mature, I was really just acting. Now I have to talk my talk and walk my walk. Now I have to prove it to people that will pay attention and not just looking pass me because I’m too young. Now have to become an adult but I don’t want to.

What should I do? What does it mean to be mature? Does being mature mean that you can’t depend on people? Or act like a baby sometime? I’m not very sure. Human beings go through this confusion all the time. I think it is normal but hard to figure out. When will I figure out? I don’t know. Where are the signs when you need them?
